Are we married?
We are not married. Marriage in Canada doesn’t bestow any rights or advantage above those granted to civil partnerships or cohabiting couples. Also, we do not need a permission or acknowledgment of a government for us to love each other and be in a relationship.
What’s up with us today?
We are bouncing around the world looking for people we belong with and a place we would love and where we could both stay indefinitely.
Do we do updates? Where to find them?
Both of us have personal websites, where we post ocasional updates and write about topics that interest us. Meg’s cabin. Elena’s cabin.
What about Canada?
In 2006, Meg and I weren’t heading for Canada. How hard it was and how much risk it was, was not about Canada. It was about being together and, no less importantly, about being true to ourselves. After a decade of being treated like dirt by Canadian immigration, we completely gave up on Canada. We have no assets in Canada, no families or friends, nothing at all. Do we want kids?
One of the reasons I ran from Russians as far as I could was so that I wouldn’t be forced to become a mother. Along with spending my life trapped with and serving some man, motherhood was my greatest nightmare. For Meg, becoming a mother was never a consideration.
